General objectives

The Asia-Invest Programme is designed to help companies internationalise their business strategies and to facilitate business cooperation between companies in the European Union and Asia (South and South East Asia and China). Areas of activity comprise Matchmaking Activities between European and Asian SMEs, Asian Private Sector Development in the form of technical assistance and Institutional Reinforcement consisting of capacity building of Asian intermediary organisations.
For further details see the Asia-Invest web site:
http://europa.eu.int/comm/europeaid/projects/asia-invest/html2002/main.htm
The Asia-Partenariat instrument facilitates large-scale business-to-business encounters in Asia, organised around several sectors of mutual interest for the host country and the EU. The project has to be organised by a non-profit local intermediary organisation that represents companies at national level. Having regard of the institutional and public relations that the event will offer, in particular with the promotion of the interests of Sri Lanka in the European Union, it is advocated that the applicant receives approval of its Government for the organisation of the EU-Sri Lanka Partenariat.

Target group
Applicants must be public or private-sector operators representing small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) or business intermediaries promoting trade and investment between the EU and Asia. Those could be, inter alia, chambers of commerce, sector-specific trade and industrial associations, employers' federations or local agencies and administrations promoting or facilitating trade and investment (see section 2.1.1 of the ‘Guidelines for Applicants 2003 — EU-Sri Lanka Partenariat 2004’).
